What is a Stronghold?

A stronghold is an area of struggle in your life that seems to have a life of it's own.  Even though you don't want to do that thing or participate in that action, you find yourself going back to it over and over again..  It is a spiritual bondage.  An area of life where you feel there are almost invisible chains holding you in an unproductive or destructive attitude or mindset.

An exampe of a stronghold is anger.  You have prayed and prayed and can't seem to get a handle on yourself when it comes to your angry emotions.  There is something operating in your life that is giving the spirit of anger an open entrance into your life.  Possibly unforgiveness or bitterness.

Does that mean that you are demon possessed.  ABSOLUTELY not!  Let's clear up any question of that right now.  A CHRISTIAN CANNOT BE POSSESSED BY A DEMON.  Once a Christian is born-again by receiving Christ into their life, their spirit man is secure within.  However, their mind, will and emotions can be oppressed by demonic strongholds.

Strong    +    hold  =   demonic oppression

The other thing we often fail to remember is that Satan is not omnipresent.  Only Father God is.  Satan cannot be more than one place at a time so it is very unlikely that the average person will ever deal with Satan himself.  There is a hierarchy concerning the demonic realm and that is described in Ephesians 6:12 in this way,  "We do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

We must learn how to claim the promises of God, bind spiritual truths and loose from ourselves deception and evil.  We must realize that the Spirit of Christ living inside of us is bigger than any attack we might encounter.  By binding the truths of God to ourselves each and every day in all situations, we will have much fewer battles to face.
